Biography of Joe "Kastaway" Kulis
Besides being owner/originator of Kulis Inc. and Kulis Productions International,
Joe "Kastaway" Kulis is a world class hunter and fisherman, establishing his mark in both fields. Fishing around the world, he has caught more than five hundred big game saltwater fish, has placed well in freshwater tournaments on the Great Lakes, and taken over 200 big game animals throughout the world.
For many years, Joe Kulis has operated a fleet of charter boats on Lake Erie, Lake Michigan and Lake Ontario, as well as Kulis Freeze Dry Taxidermy. In recent years, however, he has taken the freeze dry business to new dimensions, restoring water damaged books and documents for major companies and libraries as well as for homeowners finding precious belongings underwater.
The freeze drying process has also led to his newest project, the creation of Kodiak Scent Company, manufacturing fish attractant paste and oils. Then through years of fishing experience on the Great Lakes, seeing a need for an improved trolling diver, created "Kastaway's Diver", which can be reset in the water without retrieving, making it much easier and more productive when fishing deep.
But above all, Kastaway enjoys his time fishing and hunting and producing his television series, "The Outdoor World of Kastaway Kulis". For over 17 years, he has taken viewers out of their living rooms and into the wilderness, around the world in search of outdoor adventure. Along the way, a few records have been broken. He has long held the record for largest Russian Tur (sheep), which still stands, and Africa's Bontebok Antelope. The International Game Fish Association has issued him five of the six line class records for Walleye, and five of the six records for Channel Catfish on a fly rod.
The television show has run nationally on PBS, on various cable networks, and now, on the "Outdoor Channel" At home in Cleveland, Joe has hosted a sports oriented radio show with a call-in format. Along with all this, he has been a member of the Outdoor Writers Association of America, as well as the Ohio and New York Outdoor Writers Associations, doing free lance writing for various publications.
Whatever label he's wearing, Joe "Kastaway" Kulis is well respected in many fields, and lends credibility to his accomplishments in all of them.
